Instrumentation and process measurement technology

IVL has long experience in measuring complicated process conditions. We have knowledge of process measuring technology, sensors and tools to provide customers with more reliable measurement results.

IVL works with a wide range of measurement techniques and analysis methods. We are investigating which technologies are best suited to our clients' specific processes, and we can, if necessary, also further develop the techniques. In our work we use the experience available at IVL, both from past development and validation of analytical techniques and from our certified laboratory.

The tests can be carried out in the lab and in pilot scale evaluations and resulting analysis techniques can be implemented in full scale with an interface that fits the customer's process control system. Our strength is that we can exploit our partnerships with other research organizations, universities and colleges around Europe to develop the best solution.

Examples of applications where we have performed studies and in some cases developed our own measurement systems are:

  • Oxygen sensors in wastewater treatment plants
  • Sensor diagnostics for various process sensors
  • Simple sensors for bacteria measurements
  • Measuring systems for the analysis of oil leakage into cutting fluids
  • Sensors for discoloration of the rinsing water in washing machines

Examples of instruments and techniques we use are:

  • Spectroscopic methods using infrared, near infrared, ultraviolet or visible light
  • Acoustic sensors
  • Gas chromatography
  • Image analysis
  • Mass spectrometry
  • Ion-selective sensors

As we often use mathematical modeling to calibrate instruments and techniques, we can also usually offer automatic fault detection and error diagnosis.
