Our production, distribution and consumption of food accounts for a significant part of our environmental impact. By reducing the amount of food waste we do both our wallets and the environment a favor.
Food waste has for a number of years been a hot issue in the public environmental debate. Figures on the amount of food waste that is thrown away that could feed the starving many times over are shocking.
IVL is working intensively to investigate why we throw away so much food along the food supply chain, and especially how we can work to reduce the amount of food that is thrown away. We participate in the Swedish network SaMMa, Cooperation Forum for reduced food waste, which is run by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, The Swedish Board of Agriculture and the National Food Agency Sweden.
For several years we have worked to develop and provide data on how much food waste is thrown away in the Swedish the food supply chain within SMED.
In our newsletter IVL News we write about new projects, research results and seminars we offer at the moment. Subscribe to the newsletter here.
