Safer drinking water supply with digitization
Climate change and growing cities are major challenges for our drinking water supply. In a new project, waterworks, technology suppliers, IT companies and research participants gather to develop new digital solutions for the drinking water sector. The goal is to create safer and more predictable drinking water works.
In order to be able to optimally purify water from various pollutants, the waterworks need to take into account a number of different factors. Waterworks that, for example, take their drinking water from the Göta River are dependent on the quality of the water in the river. This quality in turn varies with the seasons, the weather, the function of the treatment plants and how much untreated stormwater is discharged into the river. Information about this is currently available in a variety of places.
Digitization provides new opportunities to link information that is already available with new information from more advanced sensors. It also provides better knowledge of current production and how waterworks should handle both short-term disruptions and long-term changes.
By visualizing the information, it also becomes easier to make fact-based decisions. The tool should also create different types of information for different stakeholders.
